Monmouth Tree Services at work:

Trees can be deceptive in their appearance the healthy looking Horse chestnut in the picture looks in good order from a distance however closer examination showed a very large split in the main stem and extensive decay around the base and also in the branches. The tree was on a golf course where the "targets" for tree or branch failure were the players so the tree needed felling and a new tree planted in its place.

The Willow tree being worked on by us was leaning towards and completely overhanging the A40 dual carriageway. It had already dropped two large branches, thankfully not onto the road, so the decision was then taken to pollard the tree making it safe and easy to maintain in the future. It was pollarded to about 14 ft as one of the dropped branches had caused a tear in the main stem and could have been an entry point for disease.

We had passed this beech tree so many times and I always commented on how I would like to prune it (it had a very heavy crown) When we got a call to prune the tree we found it was covered with bracket fungi indicating internal rot.

The tree was eventually felled for safety as it was near to and overhanging a very busy road and footpath from a school.

Once felled the extent of the rot could be seen and at the point of the main branch junction was about two thirds decayed. The public had a lucky escape!

When pruning trees we always take great care not to damage anything below the tree. We use lowering ropes when necessary to minimize damage to property.

The beech tree had to have all its branches lowered by ropes due to the footpath being so close although it was cordoned off with barriers.
